Summary

THEN
She was fifteen, her mother's golden girl。 She had her whole life ahead of her。 And then, in the blink of an eye, Ellie was gone。

NOW
It’s been ten years since Ellie disappeared, but Laurel has never given up hope of finding her daughter。

And then one day a charming and charismatic stranger called Floyd walks into a café and sweeps Laurel off her feet。

Before too long she’s staying the night at this house and being introduced to his nine year old daughter。

Poppy is precocious and pretty - and meeting her completely takes Laurel's breath away。

Because Poppy is the spitting image of Ellie when she was that age。 And now all those unanswered questions that have haunted Laurel come flooding back。

What happened to Ellie? Where did she go?

Who still has secrets to hide?

This is the best book I have read in 2021! New favorite author at the moment, and I’m so gripped by her writing style! Go read this, if you don’t own a copy run and get one!!!

Kind of dragged along in the beginning, but well worth it。 The ending made up for it completely! What a great book!

Loved this book! It definitely was a page turner for me。

I zoomed through this。 I almost put it down in the second part where it turned more into a quasi middle age romance / family drama but once the mystery twists started happening I was hooked。 After the first initial surprise which I did not fully guess, the rest of the twists and turns were pretty predictable but enjoyable nonetheless。 It was a very creative whodunnit。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I’m going back a forth from a 3 star to 4 star rating。 I did enjoy it, it was a quick and easy read。 The problem? It was predictable and I didn’t get that huge twist that I look forward to in a book, and I also feel like Ellie’s death was rushed and honestly depressing。。maybe because there was a part of me that hoped she would make it out alive。 Other than that, I really liked the plot, it kept me engaged, and the letter at the end from Ellie was a good touch。

。 Then she was gone, Lisa jewel。 8。5/10。 Really great book, I seriously could not put it down and I enjoyed how it didn’t have an ending without closing up all the lose ends within the book。 It was quite intense that’s why I took a 0。5 off。 Predictable book。 Scary to read。 03/2021

Very different from what I usually read, but it was a great read。 I kind of figured out some plot twists ahead of time, but there were a few I didn’t。 Highly recommend!

Oh。 My。 Goodness。 I typically do not pick up books like this。 But my coworker was raving about it and I knew I needed to crack it after hearing her talk about it。 There's so many twists and turns this book made me quite dizzy。 I liked the constantly shifting realities。 It made me want to flip through it really quick and I read it almost in two days because of how quick of a read it was。 The actual story is grim。 Huge trigger warnings need to come with reading this book。 Tons of illegal activity Oh。 My。 Goodness。 I typically do not pick up books like this。 But my coworker was raving about it and I knew I needed to crack it after hearing her talk about it。 There's so many twists and turns this book made me quite dizzy。 I liked the constantly shifting realities。 It made me want to flip through it really quick and I read it almost in two days because of how quick of a read it was。 The actual story is grim。 Huge trigger warnings need to come with reading this book。 Tons of illegal activity masked in a quiet suburban existence。 The book is broken into different parts。 The different parts push the story along in a non-linear fashion。 The chapters bounce around between past and present as well as between different characters。 It shifts from a first person writing or speaking to a third person narrative。 It makes it interesting in that you shift between being the person having those thoughts or words to watching a scene unfold。 It's a really cool writing style that I enjoyed。 You go in thinking you know and then it shifts。 It's shocking to say the least。 Do I have any complaints? I mean, yes。 This book is dark。 It's an easy read, but it's not easy to think about。 If that might affect you negatively, then you may not want to read this book。 It's raw and at times hard to read。 But because of the way it's written, it has you chomping at the bit to keep reading。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 4。5 One of the best mysteries I've read and certainly the most original。 The characters are so creepy that they make your skin itch。 I'd love to see this made into a movie, but like the book Push, I'm not sure I could stomach watching it。 This novel is rough。 It takes one of women's biggest fears (losing control over their reproductive rights) and sets it center stage。 It feels chilling to have listened to this book on Audible, while Texas Republicans just created a taxpayer-funded bounty hunter 4。5 One of the best mysteries I've read and certainly the most original。 The characters are so creepy that they make your skin itch。 I'd love to see this made into a movie, but like the book Push, I'm not sure I could stomach watching it。 This novel is rough。 It takes one of women's biggest fears (losing control over their reproductive rights) and sets it center stage。 It feels chilling to have listened to this book on Audible, while Texas Republicans just created a taxpayer-funded bounty hunter system for snitching on abortions。 And the Supreme Court has nothing to say。 。。。more

Really enjoyed this book。 It had a somewhat slow beginning but there were quite a few twists throughout and it was a quick read。 The book made me sad though, the ending was not as satisfying as I would have hoped。 But it made me feel *something* so can’t complain right??!

excellent read A notably well written thriller that kept me hooked after the first few chapters。 I was motivated enough to finish it within a couple of days, even at the sake of sleep。 I noticed one or two discrepancies in the plot but I’ll put that aside as this was still yet a very enjoyable and heartbreaking read
